Babel tower

The Lord came down to see the city and the tower that the men were building.

And the Lord said, "They are one people, and they speak with one tongue, and they begin to build it. Soon, nothing can stop what they plan to do.

Come, let us go down and confuse the language that they speak, that they may not understand one another. "- Genesis 11: 5-7

The Bible does not say exactly why God did not approve of the tower of Babel. But the Bible says men wanted to build the tower of Babel to become famous. They were thinking only of their own fame and glory.

Men also did not consult God before building the tower of Babel. Construction was begun without God's approval. Even if they were building the tower to worship God, they were not worried about hearing His voice.

The great landmark of this city would be a great tower that would reach the heavens (Genesis 11: 3-4). God saw the city and the tower and was not pleased. Therefore, He confused the tongues and people could no longer understand each other.

As they could no longer communicate, people stopped building the city and the tower. This place became known as Babel, meaning "confusion." The people left Babel and scattered the earth (Genesis 11: 8-9).

It gives us the lesson that listening to the Holy Spirit and obeying is of paramount importance in our lives, as well as knowing who to add their strength to, understanding that not all people are willing to listen to the Holy Spirit and obey.
